Collective Flesh
The black feminine body as a site of opulent abundance which holds within it both beauty and distortion.
Collective Flesh
Collective Flesh is a body of work which explores the black feminine body as a site of opulent abundance which holds within it both beauty and distortion. Deeply interested in the tension between these and the dichotomies of naturalness and artificiality, Collective Flesh views this space as fertile ground to push beyond mundane realness into the dreamspace of fantasy, an alchemical center which engages not only the friction inherent in these tensions, but activates the pleasure in the friction.

Oh no matter how I dream, it always makes me cry.
As the doo wop song, Dreaming, plays, swirls of white smoke swirl in slow motion against a satin pink background. A performer with her face covered in white powder appears, visible only from the nose to the mouth. White powder shoots from the performer’s mouth, revealing that the white swirl was not smoke, but a fine white dust suspended and whirling in the air.
