About Splendor
Splendor is an immersive multimedia project which uses photo, video, and sound to explore the restorative connection between Black women and the natural world, re-envisioning the historically violent relationship between Black bodies and the American landscape as one steeped in romance, sensuality, and the spiritual introspection of solitude. The project began during the height of the Black Lives Matter protests as a critical counterpoint to the onslaught of images of Black death and trauma that flood our cultural consciousness. Imbued with a sense of magic and mysticism, Splendor beacons the viewer beyond narratives of suffering and into a world where healing, self-recovery, and reunion with life is possible.
Splendor was created with the support of Meerkat Media and the Springwater Center for Meditative Inquiry.
